In March 11 trucks left the UK, packed full of aid, ranging from food, clothes, household goods, toiletries and more...
The "more" included lots of teddies.

Well done to our young people
In 2007 a group of six-formers took teddies on their World Challenge trip. Well done! And thank-you for reporting it on the World Challenge website, several more schools have now contacted us and more teddies will be traveling with students in the summer.
Well traveled! Knitted by a German lady, delivered to a British lady living in France to go to...
Students from Warrington will be taking teddies on their travels to Romania, Egypt and Sri Lanka. Read about them in the Warrington Guardian
Also bound for Sri Lanka are a group of six-formers from a school near Huddersfield. They will work in a school that was affected by the 2004 tsunami and are packing 70 teddies.
An International Teddy Effort
Another group from Dundee will be taking teddies to an orphanage in Malaysia this year, but they won't all be starting off in UK. Several will be collected from a knitter in Kuala Lumpur.
Teddies are also knitted in school knitting clubs. I'm sure everyone would like to see some pictures here? Or a special page about children helping children?

WACIA - Women and Children in Africa
In May 2007 Wacia took almost 200 teddies to Uganda. and many more in February this year. Thanks to all the knitter to responded to the call. There were more collected than need and these have were gladly accepted by the charity Shelterbox and more requested.
Cricket fans knit teddies
Did you spot a knitter among the spectators at the Sri Lanka test matches? Finished teddies were delivered to a local orphanage. A great result, pity about the cricket.

The Rotary Emergency Box Trust is now adding teddies to their Lifeboxes. What a good idea.

Within 24 hours of requesting teddies; over 200 we found and collected. Visit the Grassroots website to find out more about their work.

Read about the newest Mercy Ship the Africa Mercy, that sailed from from Blyth on the 4th of May with 80 teddies aboard.

You can see a larger one on the Bantul page One of the projects of the Indonesian charity People for the community is the Bantul kindergarten in Yogyakarta. The first teddies arrived in November 2006, more arrived in December and yet more will be leaving soon, May 2007. Please visit the page of beautiful pictures. You may recognise your teddy.

Romania children like multicoloured teddies This picture was sent from Growing Care Romania , who found boxes of teddies in the latest shipment of aid; sent by the Rotary Club on the Isle of Wight. They said some were brightly coloured and these seemed to be the most popular.

Knitters take note.
Kampala update

The promised pictures haven't arrived but much better, since Christmas over 80 more teddies have been sent to Kampala, some to a nursery and some have also been given to children in an AIDS day centre. Organisers have had an email from the school saying how much the children loved them.


Women's Refuge

A church harvest festival produce was going to the local women's refuge, and a couple of teddies were included with a compliments slip for where to find more. What a great place for teddies!

Indonesia
Malang, East Java

In January 2007 a VSO volunteer packed some teddies when she left for Malang. Well done Naomi, we wish you well.

Uganda
Kampala

In October 2006 Jenny wrote... Had to tell you that 27 of my teddies have just been collected by a friend from church who is going out to Kampala and will give them to the children in the Hosanna school. They are going to take some photos.

Malawi

More than 60 teddies have gone to Malawi from Bedlington, Northumberland.


Mexico

October 2006 - Guide leaders participating in a community project in Mexico took teddies with them. The teddies were given to nuns running orphanages in remote areas so we know they now have loving homes. We hope to get more teddies to them soon.

Simply Knitting Magazine Kosovo Romania Asian Tsunami
An article in the October 2006 edition, has helped spead the word to many more knitters. Thank you Simply Knitting This picture was taken by the Hope and Aid Direct team in Kosovo. The teddies were knitted were by members of the Billericay Women's Institute. Praise goes to Leeds Infirmary which included teddies these crocheted teddies in their relief lorry for Romania A few of the teddies that went to children after the Asian Tsunami and helped get this site launched

Please don't send unsolicited teddies to charities. They may not have storage facilities and there is a limit to how many a charity can cope with at one time.
Check with the website and your teddies will go where they're needed.
Also keep a look-out in local papers, they are a good source of new outlets.
